Our Lake Beulah story began in the summer of 1893, when Furness Hateley invited a young H. Newton to visit the Hateley family’s 340-acre farm near Wilmers Grove. H. Newton fell in love with the water, and by 1894, he was serving alongside the Hateleys as a founding trustee of both the Lake Beulah Yacht Club and the Protective Association. Their first mission? Clearing stumps from the channels to finally connect the lakes for boating and sailing.
In 1903, our family put down permanent roots near the Chamberlain and Smith estates. Over the next four generations that followed, we have been taught that this spring-fed lake is a gift that requires stewardship.
Communities do not run on their own; they thrive when people take responsibility for the resources they cherish. For us, being Legacy Donors is not about ‘keeping score’ — it is about acting on our beliefs. We believe every generation deserves the same pristine waters our ancestors found in 1893.
